One of Robert Hayes's great-granddaughters, Monica Bell, decided to take up the case in 2006. She was determined to find out who was responsible for her great-grandfather's death, and why he had been killed. Her journey took her to the archives, where she uncovered new documents and evidence. She also spoke to witnesses and descendants of the people who had been involved in the lynching.
Bell's investigation led her to some startling revelations. She discovered that her great-grandfather had been killed by a mob of white men who were angry that he had spoken out against racial injustice. She also learned that the local authorities had covered up the crime, and that no one had ever been held accountable.
Bell's story is a powerful and moving account of one woman's journey to uncover the truth about her great-grandfather's lynching. It is also a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and to the importance of never giving up on the fight for justice.
