Karski was born in Poland in 1914. He was a young man when the war broke out, and he quickly joined the Polish army. After Poland was defeated by the Nazis, Karski escaped to France and then to England. In England, he joined the Polish government-in-exile and was trained as a spy.

In 1942, Karski was sent back to Poland on a secret mission. His mission was to gather intelligence on the Nazi death camps and to report back to the Allies. Karski traveled throughout Poland, posing as a Nazi officer. He visited the Warsaw Ghetto and the death camp at Treblinka. He saw firsthand the horrors that the Nazis were inflicting on the Jewish people.

Karski's reports were some of the first eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust to reach the Allies. He spoke to Allied leaders about what he had seen, and he urged them to take action to stop the Nazis. However, the Allies were slow to respond, and the Holocaust continued.

In 1943, Karski was captured by the Gestapo. He was tortured and interrogated, but he refused to give up any information about his mission. He was eventually sentenced to death, but he was able to escape and make his way back to England.

After the war, Karski continued to speak out about the Holocaust. He testified at the Nuremberg trials, and he wrote a book about his experiences, entitled "Story of a Secret State." Karski's story is a powerful reminder of the courage and compassion of ordinary people in the face of evil.
